I was a huge fan of the novels of Tony Hillerman. The word pictures of Joe Leaphorn, “the Legendary Lieutenant” and his partner, Navajo policer officer Jim Chee, fascinated me. That was only intensified when officer Bernie Manuelito joined the mix. The way Hillerman developed the characters and wove them into the background of the American Southwest created a story that brought me instantly into the land I had grown to love over the past decade and a half. When Tony died, his daughter, Anne, continued the saga. Unlike many continuations of novels, Anne was able to both capture the essence of the land and people brought to life by her father and amplify and enrichen the story.
Recently I started Anne’s most recent work. The Sacred Bridge.[1] On page 18, she outlined the way The Pandemic had affected the Navajo Nation:
Per capita cases on the Navajo Nation had surpassed those in New York State. Navajo health officials reported that roughly 33,000 people on Navajo land—out of a population of 175,000—tested positive for the coronavirus. More than 1,400 people had died from the virus, among them precious elders like Mr. Natachi who carried tradition and irreplaceable memories. And those numbers came before the new wave of illness from the Delta and other variants.
But what if this tragedy was needless? What if it could have been, if not avoided, significantly mitigated? This is an investigation worthy of The Legendary Lieutenant for sure.
It starts with Event 201, held in New York City on October 18, 2019, and hosted by the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security, the World Economic Forum and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.[2] It a was a
pandemic tabletop exercise that simulated a series of dramatic, scenario-based facilitated discussions confronting difficult, true-to-life dilemmas associated with response to a hypothetical, but scientifically plausible, pandemic. 15 global business, government and public health leaders were players in the simulation exercise that highlighted unresolved real-world policy and economic issues that could be solved with sufficient political will, financial investment and attention now and in the future.
Catch the date: October 18, 2019. This was long before the world heard of Coronavirus, although vague reports suggest it was circulating around the time of this simulation, or even much earlier.[3],[4] This raises significant questions, especially when it is understood that Event 201 was the culmination of multiple previous similar scenarios: Dark Winter in 2001[5], Atlantic Storm in 2005[6] and Clade X in 2018[7].
Ten days later, The Future of Health Summit 2019 was held at the Milliken Institute. One of the segments on October 29, dealt with Making Influenza History: The Quest for a Universal Vaccine.[8] Panelists included Michael Specter of the New Yorker, Rick Bright of BARDA, Anthony Fauci of the NIH, Bruce Gellin of the Sabin Vaccine Institute, Margaret Hamburg, former FDA commissioner and Casey Wright, the CEO of Flu Lab. A video of the entire discussion can be found on C-Span, [9] but the significant discussing what would come later is summarized here.[10]
Virtually everything pre-shadowed in these two conferences came to pass in early 2020, as COVID-19 burst upon the scene, causing global chaos. This chaos was heightened by a flurry of contradictory and illogical recommendations by the CDC, NIH and FDA. Despite the publications by multiple authors on early therapy of COVID[11],[12], the official recommendations of the public health agencies were to “sicken at home” and social distance until the patient became too sick to continue.
As a physician, I can recall no other disease in which the official recommendation early in the course of a disease was to do nothing except isolate. Dr. McCullough and associates in references 11 and 12 emphasized a multi prong attack, much more in keeping with the modern understanding of infectious diseases. It was based on the experience of courageous and ethical physicians around the world who rejected the premise that there was nothing to be done.
In The Courage to Face Covid-19, John Leake and Peter McCullough meticulously detail the experience of such people as Zev Zelensky, Didier Raoult, Harvey Risch,, George Fareed and Bryon Tyson, Ivette Lozano, Scott Jensen, Peter and Ginger Breggin, Paul Marik, Pierre Kory and many, many others who courageously stood up for the truth when most of their (and my) colleagues just looked the other way.[13] The list is too long, the injustices against these people and society in general too extensive to give justice in this brief missive. I urge all people to read this book in its entirety. To that should be added A Plague Upon our House by Scott Atlas,[14] COVID-19 and the Global Predators: We are the Prey by Peter and ginger Breggin,[15] Overcoming the COVID-19 Darkness: How Two Doctors Successfully treated 7,000 Patients by Brian Tyson and George Fareed [16] and the meticulously annotated The Real Anthony Fauci: Bill Gates, Big Pharma, and the Global War on Democracy and Public Health (Children’s Health Defense).[17]
The web of events is still nebulous and unclear, but some things stand out. One narration and interpretation of events could run like this, perhaps offered in the words of Joe Leaphorn, the Legendary Lieutenant of Hillerman fame:
The current preponderance of evidence supports the genesis of the virus in the gain of function experiments conducted at the Wuhan Institute of Virology. Somehow the virus escaped and infected the population. It was rapidly spread by international travel from China to the West. It may be the spark envisioned at the conference at the Milliken Institute to allow worldwide inoculation with an mRNA agent. However, an Emergency Use Authorization for such an ambitious undertaking as Warp Speed could only be granted if there were no existing alternative. Therefore, the public health agencies had to confirm there was no effective treatment and we must wait for the vaccine.
However, there was a problem. President Trump had gone on television in March, 2020 , announcing hydroxychloroquine could be a game changer. The ”Unholy Trinity” of the Deep State, Big Pharma and Big Tech (I leave out “Big Medicine” as they only served as useful idiots to the Big Three) wasted no time in going into overdrive to quash that hope.[18] The reports of the successes with hydroxychloroquine along with other drugs in the multi agent approach had to be demonized and those who championed them vilified by whatever means necessary. Successful studies in early disease with thousands of patients were written off as anecdotal because they were not “randomized clinical control studies”. Never mind that a study in The New England Journal of Medicine in 2000, when critical thinking in medicine was still the norm and cited by over 2800 subsequent published found little difference in useful data from observational studies compared to randomize clinical trials.[19]
When courageous physicians insisted on using the drugs anyway, the pharmacy boards were pressured into refusing to fill the FDA approved medications for off-label use, seemingly for the first time in history. Instead, treatment for the viral replication phase of the disease was disallowed, only to be used when the inflammatory phase was underway and the chance of success slim to none. Instead, remdesivir, an agent that actually FAILED its randomized clinical study[20] continued to be recommended by the CDC and the NIH.
As outlined on pages 57-58 of the book by Leake and McCullough, the Unholy Trinity found a way to quash any use of hydroxychloroquine off-label. Rick Bright, the same individual who postulated the need for a “spark” at the October 2019 Milliken conference used his position at BARDA and met with Janet Woodcock of the FDA. Together they decided to only allow hydroxychloroquine to be used under an Emergency Use Authorization on hospitalized patients—the very patients too far along in the disease to gain any real benefit from it. When it failed in the patients in whom it was expected to fail, as they were late in the disease and beyond the viral replication phase, the Unholy Trinity used that to claim it was useless early in the disease as well. This is akin to suggesting that penicillin, given a month after a strep throat was diagnosed, was ineffective at preventing Rheumatic Fever even if given early. It made no sense….but critical thinking was in short supply by then.
A similar attack was made on the use of ivermectin, despite mountains of evidence that it, along with other agents, was indeed successful.[21] But calling this drug “horse de-wormer” was not enough. Satoshi Omura, who shared the 2015 Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine for the discovery of ivermectin, was censored in social media for even discussing the possibility that ivermectin could be useful for COVID-19.[22]
There had been a concerted effort from January to elevate fear in the population. It has long been known that propaganda is most successful when it is attached to fear. “Fear Appeal” is a classic approach to marketing.[23] The virus had been described as a deadly scourge. News photos showed people dying in the streets in China and Italy. Hospitals were overwhelmed. Ventilators were needed…LOTS of them. Then came the lockdowns…”15 Days to Flatten the Curve”.[24] But the 15 days stretched on seemingly forever as governors and unelected health directors were given unprecedented powers to close things without question. The rules were arbitrary, and some critical thinkers pointed that out. Churches were closed. Restaurants were closed. Schools were closed. But liquor stores were deemed “essential and stayed open. Political rallies were decried as “super spreader events” but BLM rallies were deemed important public health actions. Those who pointed out the inconsistency of that were shouted down and cancelled on social media. Hand sanitizers and masks were flying off the shelves, if they could even be found. Fear of the virus was literally palpable.
Then, “salvation” was offered to the masses by the Unholy Trinity. The vaccine finally came. Except it really wasn’t a classic vaccine. It was mRNA gene therapy. It was given an Experimental Use Authorization, but true informed consent for what was a massive clinical trial was not required. It was instead forbidden. Anybody who questioned anything about the “vaccine” was immediately cancelled. The CDC changed the definition of vaccine from an agent that offers “immunity” to one that gives “protection”.[25] It was done out of a “desire to be more transparent”. And those without critical thinking accepted it without question.
Since the virus was no longer an object of fear, it had to be shifted to the “unvaccinated”. THEY were the enemy. THEY wanted to infect your grandparents. THEY were the selfish ones. THEY became the object of fear and hate.[26] It even became acceptable, according to one medical ethicist, to deny them healthcare.[27]
When more and more serious adverse events from the “vaccines” emerged, they were by and large swept under the rug. Questions remain. Is the massive rise in non-COVID death rate among working-age adults due to effects of delay in medical care from the lockdowns or effects from the mRNA agents?[28] The lockdowns, so pushed by our public health agencies, were shown to have little to no effect on the virus, but huge effects on the economy and social fabric.[29] The short and long term effect on our children is unknown, but most likely huge and will continue for years.[30] What effect do the military vaccine mandate have on our preparedness?[31]
Between 1864 and 1866, the Navajo were forced from their native lands to internment camps in Bosque Redondo in the infamous “Long Walk”. At least 200 died on the way, and many more succumbed to disease and famine. Their incarceration ended in 1868, and many returned to their native lands, but it left a lasting imprint on their identity.[32] At the site of their suffering in Bosque Redondo, a monument was erected in 1994, bearing an inscription:
Hozho Nahasdlii
“Beauty is restored”[33]
I can’t help but wonder what the Navajo, the Dine, will say about this sad period in their history where so many may have died needlessly because of politics, greed, cowardice and lack of critical thinking by people they, as all of us, trusted. As bad as the physical and economic effects of COVID-19 have been, the absolute destruction of trust in our public health institutions and medical leaders may have an even greater and longer lasting negative impact.
This essay is just scratching the surface. A complete rigorous history of these times must be written. The lessons articulated. Accountability demanded. We must learn from this dark period and vow to never let it happen again……

How many previous ‘never let it happen again’ historical events happened again anyway? Civil rights violations, assault on bodily autonomy, the right to life, liberty, happiness, and pursuit of property, crimes against humanity, denial of access to employment, education, spiritual sustenance at church, illegal confinement, denial of habeas corpus, social and political persecution, psychological warfare with propaganda, complete disregard for the rule of law by those who took a solemn vow to uphold it, democide, genocide, iatrogenocide, etc.? Not only has ‘it happened again’, but it’s not even over yet. Sociopaths, psychopaths, toxic narcissists, and useful idiots are still hell bent - literally - on the destruction of civil society, liberty and humanity. The Godless world is hell on earth, and the demons are just getting started. Pray harder and put on the Armor of God.
Thank you for posting your reflections. It has been a strange combination of arrogance and ignorance that has led us here. Pretty difficult to imagine a human way out of this mess.
